Barlovento
Barlovento means “strong wind” and it is exactly here on the northeast stretch that the trade wind meets La Palma.
Frequent rainfall has made the community one of the greenest on the island. Fifty-five percent of the total surface area of 44 km sq. consists of forest.
The tourists do not come here because of the main township, although parking is readily available. They come to experience the still pristine landscape, with its deep canyons, green forests, cozy villages and attractive possibilities for excursions.
Barlovento lies 5550 m below sea level and is home to 2400 inhabitants.
