Garafía
With its 103 km sq., Garafia is in terms of surface area the second largest community, but it possesses only about 2000 inhabitants.
The north is rugged with many canyons, and some small towns are still today only reachable by climbing unfortified steep slopes.
The road linking it to Los Llanos has been in existence only since the 60s, and the street towards Barlovento was not paved until 1992. The community subsists off cattle breeding and farming.
The most important event in Garafía is the annual Fiesta in San Antonio del Monte, which takes places in June and is the largest cattle market on the island.
The centre of Santo Domingo de Garafía is clustered around the Plaza Baltazar Martín with the church and a few bars.
Garafía was previously the main settlement area of the Guanchen. Several petroglyphs were discovered in the vicinity.
